The most beautiful places - Straja, Lupeni

Straja is a mountain resort in Hunedoara county, located near Lupeni at an altitude of 1440m, on the Valcan mountain. Straja local resort was opened in the year 2002. In  Straja are located 7 ski slopes  each equipped with air transport cable. Four of these benefits by nocturne, making it possible to use by night. Straja resort have enough beds and over 300 lodges, guesthouses and villas recently constructed. The resort is seeking by tourists especially in summer for hiking and recreation, and in winter for all snow sports.

        Straja ski slopes are located in the  Valcan  mountain near the top with the same name. Located on the northern versant of group-Godeanu Retezat mountains, slopes have snow from november to april. Thanks to the  large number of slopes  at  Straja can ski even in difficult weather conditions. If  when the  weather is beautiful, you can enjoy a splendid view of the Retezat mountains . To reach to Straja you may follow several routes, but tourists will be here in the first place in town Lupeni. With car can reach Petrosani, 66A, by rail reaches the station of Lupeni, then there are approximately 3 km to 10 km by gondola to reach in Straja.

           As a tourist can visit Straja Hermitage. The place is the former hermitage consecrated on 21mai1991, the day is celebrated by Orthodox Saints Constantine and Elena.  The monastery entry is through a 50m long tunnel walls which is painted entirely ecclesiastical calendar . The acces tunnel  is divided into two, half devoted to the Old Testament and the other to New Testament.

            Throughout in the resort built imposing metal cross with arm 18m vertical and horizontal 9m. The cross monument was dedicated to the Romanian soldiers who died in World War I and to the tourists who lost their lives in the Straja cross over the yearsr. A simila cross, but much larger is found in Bucegi namely Crucea Eroilor.
